The Sizewell C project includes a new 1.8 km single-carriageway bypass around the villages of Farnham and Stratford St. Andrew.
This will link into the existing A12 using roundabouts – one of which is around 450m from our entrance (replacing the existing A1094 junction at Friday Street). The new road will ultimately pass more closely to our Self-Catering Accommodation, CAMC CL Caravan Site and green spaces than the existing A12, although it will be in a deep cutting with an earth bund on our side of it.
There will also be significant changes to the local public footpaths (PRoWs), with some being permanently severed, others being diverted and new routes being created.
How might this affect my stay at Mollett’s Farm?
Whilst we’re hopeful that this work will have a limited impact on our guests, we’re realistic enough to know that such a major project will have consequences:
- There will be additional traffic on the A12, with many more HGVs. Additional care and time may be required to safely enter or exit our entrance – particularly if you are towing a caravan.
- Temporary speed restrictions, traffic cones and traffic lights will be used to manage vehicles near to or approaching construction areas.
- Heavy machinery will be operating nearby, which is likely to be noisy at times (mostly weekdays 7am – 7pm and Saturdays 7am – 1pm, but not exclusively).
- The footpath route to the farm shop and cafe at Friday Street may be disrupted, diverted or blocked. Other local walking routes will also be affected.
- There may be additional dust.
When will the work take place?
Detailed work schedules are not provided by Sizewell C. However, at the time of writing (September 2026), work is now in full swing.
The new roundabout at Friday Street has been tied into the existing A12 and A1094 (the Snape/Aldeburgh road) and has been carrying traffic since March 2026. Those works are clearly approaching completion, which will hopefully bring an end to all the traffic cones and speed restrictions there. Just watch out for any temporary road closures whilst they finish off, which are usually signed in advance.
The direct walking route between Mollett’s Farm and the shops at Friday Street has been closed for a few weeks, but is scheduled to re-open again shortly (albeit on a revised alignment, involving slopes). ‘Heavy Plant Crossing’ signage is there to inform footpath users that they are passing through a construction area, not that the footpath is closed. Contractor’s staff are there to ensure passage is done safely, which might involve temporarily repositioning barriers. Alternative, slightly longer routes are usually available to both the north (alongside the A12) and south (across farmland). If in doubt, please ask us for the latest situation.
It’s a little uncertain when the Two Village Bypass will open to traffic, but our best information currently suggests the end of 2027.
