Are you ready for 3 whole days’ worth of crazy colour, exceptional musical talent, tasty treats, energetic sportiness, chilled out tunes and beautiful crafts? Well, you’re in for a treat as the Framlingham Gala Fest is on its way!
Now in its second year as a true 3-day festival style event, the Framlingham Gala Fest has evolved into an absolutely unmissable event suitable for all the family. The 25th – 27th brings a huge buzz of excitement and events to our cosy corner of the Suffolk coast. The best part? Well, the beautiful and historic town of Framlingham is only 15 minutes away from our luxury self-catering accommodation here at Mollett’s Farm.
So, let’s find out exactly what you can expect for this year’s Gala Fest.
Wacky colours and crazy fancy dress
The Sand, Sea and Surf Themed Gala Parade
Who doesn’t love fancy dress? At the Framlingham Gala, they know how to take their parades and fancy dress theme to the next level. Get ready for bright bold colours and statement-making styles as the parade of fantastical floats traverse the ancient streets all the way to the castle meadow. Previous parade themes have included “London Shows” and “Flower Power”. Everybody can join in, so, it’s time to bust out the crazy beach wear or channel your inner mermaid and join in with this year’s theme – Sand, Sea and Surf. You’re going to have a whale of a time!
Exciting, sporty competition
Would it really be a Gala if there wasn’t a bit of healthy competition? It doesn’t have to be too serious though. If you enjoy a cheeky bit of running or cycling and fancy a little challenge why not put together a team and then invite all your friends along to cheer you on, the more the merrier! This is the perfect event for family, friends or even work colleagues.
Your reward? At the end of the event there’s a big BBQ, bar and live music playing into the evening for all competitors and spectators. Plus, there some great prizes up for grabs too!
A musical feast for your ears
You can’t have a Festival without a lot of live music. Here’s what the Framlingham Gala has in store for you.
Live music night – Saturday 25th May
Dubbed a mini festival for the town of Fram. The live music night at the Framlingham Sports Club begins to warm up from 1pm with the crescendo of headline acts finishing at 11pm. Food and drink stalls and face painting will all add to the atmosphere creating a wonderful mini festival vibe.
Music by the pond – Sunday 26th May
Saturday afternoon sees a host of local singers and bands performing by the Castle Inn and out in front of the pond. Soul artists Ponder de Tres and rabble-rousing EllY Tree will be performing to name a few, but keep an ear out for local teenagers Roma Nicholson, Noah Evans and Sophie Hanson throughout the day, they are the future of Suffolk’s music scene and could probably give Ed Sheeran a run for his money!
Gala Fest Monday – Monday 27th May
As the Framlingham Gala Fest draws to a close there is just enough time for one final day of music, food and family fun! Join in with the excitement at the castle meadow where there will be a BBQ, majorettes, swing dancing, a samba band, Caribbean steel band and plenty more. The live music will keep the crowds entertained until 8pm and the meadow will be brimming with activities including a fun fair, have a go archery, children’s races and even a magic show. Be sure to give the Framlingham Army Air Corp Suffolk your best salute as they pass by.
A celebration of local crafts
Framlingham is a feast for the eyes (and hungry tummies) all year round and this Bank Holiday is no exception. The Craft Fayre has stalls with toys from years gone by; handmade, artisan bath and beauty products and beautiful crafts and homeware – you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a unique memento to take home and treasure.
Everyone loves a Car Boot Sale and you’ll be sure to bag yourself a bargain (or four) as Framlingham once again comes together to buy and sell – after all you never know what you might find!
Keep your energy levels up with fabulous Framlingham food and drink including BBQ’s, Gin Caddy Paella, Time for Prosecco, Simpsons sweet shop and Doodle Donuts.
We may be biased but we simply cannot think of a better place to spend your May bank holiday weekend than here at our luxury accommodation at Mollett’s farm.
