Amazing events in Suffolk this Christmas

There’s a chill in the air and the sound of sleigh bells on the breeze.

Christmas events have been on the calendar in Suffolk since October (!) but we thought we’d wait a little longer to bring you our favourite festive events in Suffolk this Christmas.

Heveningham Hall Christmas Market

On 2nd December between 10am and 1pm

Kick start December in style at this fabulous listed property just a short drive inland from our luxury accommodation.

Meet Holly and Ivy the reindeer! They will be available for treats and selfies. There’s even a chance to see some live turkeys. There will be a wide variety of lovely local craft stalls, delicious handmade mince pies, and of course, plenty of hot mulled wine.

Christmas at Helmingham with Illuminated Garden Trail

Between November 23rd and December 8th.

Did you know that the drawbridge at Helmingham Hall has been pulled up every single night since 1510. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this incredible historic location lit up for the festive season. The illuminated garden trail is something really different to do this November and December as thousands of lights transform the gardens into an enchanted winter wonderland. Afterwards, pick up some treats from the hall’s own Christmas market. Now in its second year, this event could well become your Christmas tradition.

Jimmy’s Farm Christmas Fayre

On the weekend of the 7th to the 8th of December

Good old Jimmy’s Farm are hosting their annual Christmas Fayre. Expect all the fun of the farm with Christmas bells on! The farm is just on the outskirts of Ipswich less than 30 minutes from our farm. There will be lots of market stalls, a brass band supported by a choir, resident reindeer, hot chestnuts and, of course, a glass of something warm to keep you hydrated. Entry to this event is free, you’ll only pay if you decide to visit the farm park as well.

Choir of Jesus College Cambridge St Michael’s Church Framlingham

On Thursday 12th December

Remember the true meaning of Christmas and fill your soul with festive cheer at one of our favourite events in Suffolk. This year The Choir of Jesus College Cambridge will be performing choral music for Advent and Christmas from the 15th century to the present day in St Michael’s Church, Framlingham. As usual, the church will be full of decorated Christmas trees to provide a magical backdrop. Proceeds to the Friends of the Church. You can even partake in mulled wine and mince pies during the interval.


Christmas Farmers’ Market at Trinity Park, Ipswich

On Saturday the 14th of December from 10am until 2pm

The popular Trinity Park will be filled with a whopping 50 different stalls selling an array of festive produce sourced from the local Suffolk area. This is one Christmas market sure to be buzzing, you will easily find gifts for everyone in the family. Support local businesses this Christmas with a visit to this fabulous festive event.

Christmas Carols at The Red House

Tuesday 18 December 2018 at 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The Red House in Aldeburgh was the home of composer Benjamin Britten who famously established the world-famous Aldeburgh music festival. This sing-along will surely attract some of the best voices in Suffolk and (weather permitting) will take place outside in the courtyard at The Red House! Fill yourself with festive cheer and warm up afterwards with mulled wine and mince pies in the Red House

Snape Maltings Christmas Oratorio and Sing Christmas

Friday 20 and Saturday 21 December

Our favourite venue in Suffolk is the world-class Snape Maltings. This year you can hear Christmas Oratorio the story of the nativity is performed by the Suffolk Ensemble and Aldeburgh Voices. On Saturday Aldeburgh Voices return again, but this time alongside Group A, an ensemble of young people from Ipswich and Lowestoft open to anyone who wants to join.

Come and raise the roof with these beautiful choirs as they sing much-loved Christmas hits. There’s no need to be a great singer – just come along and have fun!
