The Galley has an enormous reputation for food in Woodbridge and beyond. Flamboyant owner Uğur is originally from Turkey and his passion for fresh seasonal food in his Mediterranean style shine through on the menu. Local favourites such as Suffolk Black Pig and Orford skate work perfectly in authentic dishes from South Africa, France, Morocco and the Aegean Coast.
This unassuming 18th century pub is cosy and quaint and typical of a Suffolk market town. The standards are high at The Anchor, and rightly so given the strong competition in the area. Each Thursday The Anchor holds a ‘Tiffin Thursday’ where you can sample authentic South East Asian Cuisine. The rest of the week sees pub classics such as cheeseburger and chips and sausage and mash elevated to the next level.
For dinner under the stars or lunch in the sun then The Riverside Restaurant is the place to be. You can enjoy locally sourced, fine-dining style food in a relaxed and casual setting. The Riverside often runs specials evenings such as ‘Duck and Lobster Night’, or the ever popular ‘Fish and Flicks’, where you can enjoy a spot of dinner and watch a film afterwards in the beautiful attached cinema. Don’t forget to peruse through their lovely wine list too.
A seriously trendy establishment full of cocktails and colour, which also has some great deals. Buy a kids meal here and your little one can enter the Tide Mill for free (Can you guess where the East Coast dinner gets its flour from?) They also have a brilliant offer whereby you can order one of their renowned artisan hand-rolled pizzas plus a glass of wine, Corona or Coke for just £10 any day of the week from 12pm until 4pm.
A proper traditional café which caters to everyone. It’s wheelchair friendly, has plentiful outdoor seating, and a range of dietary options. The aptly named Whistlestop café (it’s housed in the old station ticket office) has been a Woodbridge staple for years and has a prime spot right next to the beautiful waterfront. Be sure to get there early to secure a seat or pick up a takeaway to enjoy al fresco by the river.
A quirky café with views overlooking the square. Generous portions and a friendly welcome are what keeps the wild strawberry café on our mouth-watering places to eat list. Pop here after a morning of exploring Woodbridge to sample one of their delicious sandwiches, or just a good old traditional fry up. Their coffees and cakes are impossible to resist. They also have a bring and swap book collection in the back room, perfect for rainy afternoons or to bring something back to our luxury accommodation to curl up with in the evening.
Home to some of the best sausage rolls in Woodbridge Honey + Harvey is a popular café bakery with an emphasis on quality local ingredients. They have a huge gluten free range and all their goods are available to take away too. They also serve their world-famous cheddar cheese scones, made with Woodbridge’s Tide Mill stoneground wholemeal flour and organic cheddar cheese, milk and eggs. Mornings, these are served with organic butter and Stokes chilli jam…well we did say this list was mouth-watering!
The Crown at Woodbridge offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner and has 2 AA Rosettes to its name. The focus here is on simple quality ingredients put together to produce classic British dishes which are beautifully presented and uncomplicated. The buzzy bar is popular with locals and visitors and is a great place to spend an evening. Their bar staff really know how to whip up a fabulous cocktail…or two!
